BifrOSt Web

The public website for BifrOSt, an Icelandic-first developer workstation and live/install ISO based on Arch Linux with the COSMIC desktop.

The site is a Dioxus 0.7 full-stack application written in Rust. Icelandic is the default language, English is available throughout, and all editorial content is loaded from SQLite at runtime.

The changelog deliberately separates published releases from development source. v0.2.0 is the latest published ISO; 0.2.1 is currently an unpublished development line.

Content model

data/content.db is the source of truth for user-facing copy, translations, links, image references, release facts, and changelog entries.

Each row stores a JSON payload. The server reads the database on every content request, so copy and translation changes do not require rebuilding the Rust application. Restarting the server is not required when the database file is updated in place.

Set BIFROST_CONTENT_DB to use another database path. The default is data/content.db relative to the server working directory.

Before publishing content changes, preserve these facts:

• v0.2.0 is the latest published release.
• 0.2.1 must be labelled as unpublished development work until an actual release is published.
• Installation uses the entire selected disk and removes all partitions and data.
• Secure Boot is unsupported in BifrOSt 0.2.
• BifrOSt-Apps source availability does not mean an application is present in the production Flatpak catalog.

Development

Install the Rust WebAssembly target and Dioxus CLI:

rustup target add wasm32-unknown-unknown
cargo install dioxus-cli --version 0.7.10

Run the full-stack development server:

dx serve --web --addr 127.0.0.1 --port 8080

Open http://127.0.0.1:8080/. The changelog is available at http://127.0.0.1:8080/changelog.

Build the client and server bundles:

dx build --web

The generated bundle is written below target/dx/bifrost-web/.

Verification

Run the platform-specific checks when changing Rust or Dioxus configuration:

cargo check --features server
cargo check --features web --target wasm32-unknown-unknown
dx build --web

For visual changes, inspect both routes at desktop and mobile widths. Verify the language switch, mobile menu, screenshot selector, route navigation, local fonts, image loading, and absence of horizontal overflow.
